Paskong Pinoy Sangria
There are over 2 million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) worldwide and not everybody can come home for the holidays. This season is hard for those who can’t come home. I know because I was one of them. Still am because my extended family are all back home. We make do by facetiming the family so we could watch them open presents and watch and partake with the festivities thousands of miles away.
I wanted to make a mocktail recipe dedicated to the OFWs who can’t come home and I thought of incorporating flavors that are reminiscent of home during the holidays.
I used Kiat Kiat or ponkanita (clementines). In my province, this is used a stocking stuffer or at least my mom did. I also used Fuji Apples which were pricier than other apples and I remember that we would only get them during this season as a treat and also because of its beautiful bright red color. Growing up in the province, my mom used clean white tube socks as stockings and filled it with kiat kiat, an apple, and some candies. It was simple but it made us happy.
I also used dealcoholized wine from @drinksaintviviana that I bought from @burdenofproofna , aromatic bitters from @allthebitter , and a can of ginger beer from @qmixers .
I got the beautiful balikbayan box vase from @gerindelcarmen, a fellow Filipino who makes beautiful ceramic art - please check out her page!
To my OFWs, this one’s for you. Maligayang Pasko! (Merry Christmas!)
